Hey! You seem to know everything there is to know about Mumford & Sons so I was wondering if you knew what the story was behind the goat on the cover of Sigh No More? I've seen a little figure of one on Ben's keyboard too in a live show... is it their unofficial mascot or something? Love your blog by the way, best place to go as a Mumford fan!
Hi there, and thank you!
I’m not sure why they chose to put a goat (sheep or lamb or whatever it is) on the cover of SNM. I do know that Marcus purchased each of the boys the little farm animal mascots from the Early Learning Centre, though. If you click through, you’ll find some very interesting information and a hilarious video in which the boys discuss the “anatomically incorrect” plastic farm animals!

Winston Marshall of Mumford & Sons chats to the crowd in German at Harvest of Art Festival in Wiesen, Austria on July 6, 2012.
Here’s a rough translation:
Today is not Ted’s birthday…
BUT, I’ve lost my jean jacket. BUT, Ted found my jean jacket!
Very nice. Very good. Yeah.

Winston Marshall of Mumford & Sons had a special message (in italiano!) before the band’s concert in Ancona on 4th July 2012.
Special thanks to the Facebook group Signori della strada (Mumford & Sons Italia) for the video!
EDIT - For those who don’t speak Italian, he says:
Hello to Signori della strada. How’s it going? My name is Winston. I play the banjo. Thank you for all the love here in Italy. You are very beautiful. I am here in the Piazza del Plebiscito here in Ancona. So thank you to you. Have a nice day, bye!

Mumford & Sons perform “Awake My Soul” at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds on 4th June 2012. There’s a bit of bonus banter at the start of the video in which Winston elaborates on what the band did while in the town, and Marcus comments (read: teases) about Winston’s “good speech.”
