Mumford & Sons
Throwback Thursdays: “Whispers in the Dark” live at Gebäude 9 in Cologne, Germany on 19th November 2009.
This performance, recorded just one month after Sigh No More’s UK release and before its February 2010 US and Canadian release, is unique because the song was still so new that a section of what is now known as “Lover of the Light” was part of the introduction. Since then, the band obviously decided they had two separate songs on their hands: “Whispers in the Dark” and “Lover of the Light” from Babel (2012).

“It’s been a mental 12 months of massive record sales and relentless touring for Mumford & Sons. Barry Nicolson follows the folk four-piece from Amsterdam to Cologne and finds a band on the cusp of exploding.”
From the 9 October 2010 edition of NME Magazine. If you’ve not yet read this, take the time to do so; it’s a fantastic article.

Here’s a special treat!
“Whispers in the Dark,” as performed by Mumford and Sons on 19 November 2009 in Cologne, Germany.
What’s so special about this is that the song was still so new at that point that a section of what is now “Lover of the Light” is included. Obviously the band have since determined that they had two separate—and yet equally amazing—songs on their hands.
