I have only heard "Feel The Tide" on the Deluxe Edition Live At Shephard's Bush Empire. Is there a studio recording I can download? Such a beautiful song!
“Feel The Tide” was originally released on the Love Your Ground EP, and you can listen to it here, but I can’t post it for download due to copyright restrictions. Sorry about that! For my followers who have never heard the live version that was released as part of the Sigh No More Deluxe Edition, click here to listen and click here to watch a video of the performance.
While we’re at it, here’s a bit of trivia for you: “Feel the Tide” was “pretty much the first song [Marcus] ever wrote.” -RollingStone
Thanks for the question!

I saw the video you just posted of them performing Sister. Do you think it'll be on the new album? I love that song so much. . .
Hello! That video is great, isn’t it? In all honesty, I doubt “Sister” will be on the new album; it’s not actually a new song, as it was released on Mumford & Sons’ second EP Love Your Ground in 2008, and then the band released a “new studio version” soon after. Similarly:

…I doubt they’d release “Liar” again, too. The only song that’s been confirmed to be on the new album is “Below My Feet.” Everything else is still up in the air, though the list in that last question has great potential. I will say, however, that “Broken Crown” samples the original “To Darkness,” so it’s highly unlikely that “To Darkness” will be included; it was already released on the “Little Lion Man” single, anyway. “Feel the Tide” is one of the band’s oldest songs, and it was also included on the Love Your Ground EP, so that most likely will not be on the new album, either. Furthermore, it would seem you are correct that “Home” will probably not make it onto the new album (unless the band are pulling one over on everyone!). As far as new, “unheard” songs are concerned, who knows? The band have said that they like to “play in” their new material, but perhaps they’ve held back a song or two.
All of this is to say that only time will tell what will end up on the new album. September 24th is getting closer every day!

Hi! I love your blog! I was just wondering, do you know who the female vocalist is in "Feel The Tide"? Thank you!!
Hello, and thank you! The female vocalist in the original version of “Feel the Tide” (found on the Love Your Ground EP) was Marcus’ now sister-in-law.
Thanks for the question!

Hi, I was wondering if you knew who wrote what mumford and sons songs? I know that winnie wrote sister and winter winds but do you know who wrote some of the other ones? :)
Hi, there! I see that you’ve asked some other blogs the same question and I’m sorry to disappoint you but I can only give you nearly the same answer. They boys always share the writing process, and often write songs during soundcheck before shows. Also, we know for sure that Marcus wrote “Feel the Tide”, and I believe that he also wrote “Liar,” based upon what he says at the beginning of this live recording. If I find out any other solid information, I promise I’ll share it here for you!
EDIT PART I - Thanks to laivine, here is an article in which Ben confirms Marcus wrote the lyrics to “Little Lion Man,” as well!
EDIT PART II - I just rifled through my archives for a quote I remembered where Ted mentions some of the band’s songwriting influences. He states in this interview that “Thistle and Weeds” was inspired by a dream that Marcus had. I’m not sure if that means Marcus wrote all the lyrics himself or not, but he had to have had a hand in them.

Do you happen to know the quote from Marcus about his song writing process?
After seeking further clarification, yes I do!
“When you write a song, sitting naked on your bedroom floor, it’s the most private thing you can do. I’m very English, and we don’t talk about emotions publicly. Then you do the most public thing possible: You record it and ask people to play it on the radio. It’s pretty weird when you hear people singing that private moment back at you.”
-Marcus Mumford, via this article from RollingStone
And for the record, the song he wrote in that particular situation was “Feel The Tide.”
Thanks for your question!

Mumford and Sons perform “Feel the Tide” at Lollapalooza 2010.
The fan videographer had a bit of “shaky camera” syndrome, but this a terrific and fun video anyway! We are even treated to a close up of Winston rocking his electric banjo solo.
