Why Mumford & Sons' Winston Marshall is going to change his tattoo and stop going by the nickname "Country Winston"
- GQ: Why the word "tour" [as a tattoo]?
- Winston Marshall: Um, because I love tour.
- GQ: Not "touring"? Not even "tour!" with an exhortatory or celebratory exclamation mark? Could you only afford the four letters?
- WM: Yeah, at the time... [He grins.] I'll add the 'ing' now. I know it's not very imaginative.
- GQ: While we're at it, why the nickname "Country"?
- WM: I'm not up for it any more; I'm going to change it. It was from an old band where we had pseudonyms. I kept it because I thought it was fun. There was Hillbilly Harry, Duvet Crocket, Kid Fiddler... The problem is, at the time, for me, country music meant bluegrass. Now I've spent time in America I've realised I don't actually like country music.

Do you know where I can download songs by Captain Kick and the Cowboy Ramblers?
Hello there! I have just updated the download link on my original post, so you should now be able to download all six tracks from there. Any previous reblogs will no longer work.
Some of you may be asking, “Who are Captain Kick and the Cowboy Ramblers, and why are they relevant to Mumford & Sons Blog?” Well, CKatCR was the band Mumford & Sons’ banjoist Winston Marshall was in prior to Mumford & Sons. Some other CKatCR members you may recognize are Noah and the Whale’s Tom Hobden and Charlie Fink, King Charles, and Harry Cargill, formerly of Matthew and the Atlas, who played for Mumford & Sons during their 2012 European summer festival tour while Marcus Mumford’s hand was broken.
Here’s a photo of CKatCR at their first ever gig, courtesy of the band’s myspace page:
That is Winston Marshall in the middle.
Thank you for the question!
