Mumford & Sons Discuss Their Love for Blink 182
From MTVHive.com
08.31.2012
Mumford & Sons‘ much-anticipated second album, Babel, is due out in late September, and it’s likely to catapult the band firmly into “major rock superstars” territory, if they’re not already there. Before the London quartet start hanging around with Bono and adopting weird alternate personae, though, they sat down to record an episode of The Hivecast with Matt Pinfield while they are still polite, relatable dudes – whose record collections probably look a lot like yours did when you were sixteen. “Ben and I went to Blink 182 last weekend, and it was amaaaaaazing,” Marcus Mumford tells Matt. “They played a 24-hit set. It was amazing. Every song was a massive tune. For most people, that would be quite a different kind of music to what we do.”
The rest of the band goes on to cite other unlikely influences — the Backstreet Boys even get a shoutout — and while it’s not all namedropping, it gives you a good idea of what this episode of the Hivecast is like: Matt and four guys with a penchant for sarcasm sitting around and trading stories and one-liners. There’s some meat here, too though – the band also opens up about why Babel is more intense than Sigh No More, and how they recorded the album live in the studio for the first time. Listen to the rest of the [free 31-minute] podcast to get the details. [Download & subscribe to the Hivecast via iTunes.]

Mumford and Sons movie 'Big Easy Express' DVD release date revealed
The Railroad Revival Tour film will be out on July 24
Mumford and Sons are set to release their tour film Big Easy Express on DVD on July 24. The film will also be available a month earlier via iTunes on June 26.
The documentary follows the band on their Railroad Revival Tour of the US in spring 2011, which saw them tour the country on a train made up of 15 vintage railcars with Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeroes and Old Crow Medicine Show.
The bands premiered the film at SXSW back in March, performing a number of songs after the movie aired at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas. The film went on to win the SXSW film festival Audience Award.
Big Easy Express sees the three bands travelling 2477 miles from Oakland to New Orleans and playing gigs along the side of the railway tracks. It was directed by Emmett Malloy, who was also behind the 2009 White Stripes film Under Great White Northern Lights. ”I think it was the best thing we’ve ever done,” said Mumford and Sons frontman Marcus Mumford after the screening. “Watching it feels like going back in time.”
Mumford and Sons hosted their second Gentlemen of the Road Stopover festival yesterday (June 9) in Galway and headlined Rockness Festival on Friday. They plan to release the follow up to 2009’s ‘Sigh No More’ this September.
