Mumford & Sons perform “Lover’s Eyes” at The Ryman in Nashville on March 8th, 2012.  At the very start of this video is the end of the “Ross is a big knob” banter that I mentioned in my review of this concert (you’re welcome for the “chess piece” comment, everyone.  If you don’t know what I mean, go read my review).  Slightly profane, but hilarious nonetheless.

Hey love! I was wondering if you could recommend me some Mumfordlike music that is similar to there sound or bands they are closely related to. I've already fell in love with Laura Marling's stuff as well as Johnny Flynn. Do you specifically have any recommendations? I know Marcus offers some on the site but I'd love to hear some of your findings :) Cheers.

Hello there!  I must confess that I’ve put off answering this for a while because I’ve gotten so used to those around me thinking that my taste in music is strange.  But I know all of you have terrific taste in music so I’m not concerned.

Mumford & Sons sound unique to me, so I can’t necessarily suggest any music that is “Mumfordlike” in that sense, but I can simply suggest some of the artists that I like and are currently on heavy rotation in my library; you’ll probably know some of them.  Here they are in no particular order, and I’ve conveniently linked you to a YouTube video for each:

So there you go!  I listen to so much music—I mean a lot of music—so this really is just a sampling.  I hope you find some artists you like!

I don't understand why you keep including Ross Holmes as though he's a member of the band, he's not!

Should I not include photos of Captain Nick and the Hornblowers and Adam Stockdale and credit them when they play with the band, either?  You realize that both Sigh No More and the forthcoming album would be completely different without the talents and contributions of those musicians, right?  I’m fairly certain that Ben, Marcus, Winston, and Ted would agree that anyone who plays with them is part of their band.  If you check this source and this interview, it’s quite clear that those boys are all about people and fostering community through their music, not exclusivity.

With that said, yes, Ross Holmes is a vital part of Mumford & Sons.  If he wasn’t, forgive me, but this song (and many others) would be lacking something seriously special.
