Invest Your Love: 2013 Spring Campaign

We’ve selected The Voice Project for the Spring Campaign.

This is a charity that has a worldwide focus and impact which we felt was important since Mumford & Sons fans are from everywhere, and yet, does not have such a great budget that what we do will be but a drop in the bucket.  It also has ties to the goals of Invisible Children, the first charity we have supported, and supports the people impacted by conflict in LRA-impacted areas in Africa along with several other critical human rights issues of the day.

Take a look at the video, look through some of the amazing cover songs from Mumford & Sons tourmates, Dawes and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros as well as other great artists, learn about the songs of forgiveness, as well as the numerous other worldwide activities they do to use the power of music to bring peaceful resolution to conflicts around the world.

Our vision: Mumford & Sons have made our lives better.  They’ve impacted who we are.  They give us respite and calm and joy and energy and when the day feels like it’s taken us by the ankles and is shaking us for loose change, they seem to set us right.  The Wayside Inn is a chance to say thank you and convert some of the powerful emotion and love this band sparks in many of us into something tangible. Let the good they bring into the world multiply through us, their fans.  Let it make life better for someone else.

The Wayside Inn’s Thank You Postcard Album

Here’s our big announcement! We (me) were so excited about this thing that we’ve posted it early (well, tumblr got excited and posted it early, so we are happy to share it now!)

Mumford & Sons will soon be releasing their second album, Babel.  For many of us, their first album has been a tremendous source of solace, support, a musical way forward when we’re struggling. They’ve told us that we were not alone in this. They’ve fit our every mood.  They’ve made bad days better, and good days great. They’ve won countless awards, they’ve crossed the globe and they have become hugely successful.  But they remain humble, focused on sharing their music with anyone who cares to listen, and they’ve made fans out of us.

We’d like to tell Marcus, Ted, Ben and Winston and all associated with Mumford & Sons thanks.  We can do that by supporting their causes, which we will continue to strive to do, but we’d also like to put it down on paper.  We’d like to tell them how their fans feel.

We encourage you to purchase or make a postcard no larger than 4” x 6” (10cm by 15.25cm) and mail it to us at the address below. A postcard from a place they’ve been, a place you hope they’ll visit, or something else entirely. It’s up to you how to interpret the prompt and what you’ll choose to create. We certainly hope you’ll put on Sigh No More and draw or write something from your heart.

All postcards postmarked by October 31st will be included in our album of messages from fans.  Postcards received after this date cannot be guaranteed inclusion. The album will be delivered along with a brief message regarding the status of our fundraising by the end of the year.

• multi-dimensional (no dangly bits, please, or macaroni pieces that will cause your postcard to not fit into the album)
• crude, obscene, negative, or invasive of anyone’s privacy

The Wayside Inn’s New Giveaway: An Autographed Copy of “Sigh No More!”

Well, I’ve been on something of a self-imposed hiatus over the last week/month/a while now, but Jennifer from Mumford and Sons Blog with the help of a few other tumblr compatriots (thank you so much to jburneya and meetva2000) did something pretty awesome while at the Ryman Auditorium just a few days ago aside from seeing M & S rock out.  Something that I think warrants a little effort on my part.

She had Mr. Marcus Mumford of the ever-so wonderful Mumford & Sons sign a copy of Sigh No More Deluxe as pictured here.  She explained to him that this would be given to someone who is donating to the causes they support via The Wayside Inn, specifically Amnesty International and Invisible Children.  That Marcus is aware of our little project…well, you can imagine I was pretty…gobsmacked is a polite way of putting it.

How to Win This Autographed Copy of Sigh No More:

First, reblog! Then, donate.  To be good to our word, only donors are up for winning this but if you donate once and reblog multiple times, you increase your chances. 

Option A: Donate to Invisible Children via The Wayside Inn
The band has performed for IC, their music has been used in IC videos, most recently in the phenomenon that is the Kony 2012 viral film. 

Option B:  Donate to Amnesty International via The Wayside Inn
The band most recently took part in the Secret Policeman’s Ball to raise money for Amnesty International, an organization that works on human rights around the world.

(If crowdrise for whatever reason isn’t your thing, directly donating to these organizations and sending thewaysideinngroup@gmail.com your receipt will count.)

Whenever the combined total of the two fundraisers reaches $1000, we will select randomly a winner from the reblogs, selecting until we verify the winner is also a donor.  As always, we recommend learning about what both IC and AI do and how your donation will help further the cause of human rights.

What: In honor of Mumford & Sons’ performance at the Amnesty International’s Secret Policeman’s Ball in NYC, we’re fundraising for AI.  

What is Amnesty International?

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 3 million supporters, members and activists in more than 150 countries and territories who campaign to end grave abuses of human rights.

Our vision is for every person to enjoy all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.

We are independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion and are funded mainly by our membership and public donations.

When: Through March 4th, the date of the Secret Policeman’s Ball

Why: We love this band and they give back and make the world better, why shouldn’t we?

HELLO to graphics makers, folks with MSPaint, Mumford fans! Submit your image promoting The Wayside Inn - a group of Mumford & Sons fans raising funds for the band’s causes - to win our Festival!

Deadline: 1 week from today! December 13th, 6pm EST!

December Giveaway! Time to Stomp!

Just like it’s no doubt happening in your life, December is our last, manic push to the finish line.  Our last big hurrah before 2012.  Things are crazy.  Mumford & Sons is getting nominated for Grammys and we still want to raise $1000.00 for Invisible Children.  We’re currently at $420.00.  So that means we need more help, more outreach, and definitely more contests and we, hope, more fun. 

So on top of another hoodie contest for a random donor and another reblogging, signal boosting, go tell it on the mountain frenzy contest for a SNM: Deluxe, we’re holding an impromptu silent auction.  The highest donor in December wins originals of these really beautiful drawings of the band at the bottom of this post.  Let us know if you think they should be separated for four winners and we’ll consider it. The pictures, not the band.  Perish the thought.
